We offer a 14 day tour where we will visit six high ornithological interest, among others.

 1. EBRO DELTA (3 days)

DAY 1:

You will start our tour with a three days stay at the Ebro Delta, the second largest wetland in the Iberian Peninsula. The first day we will visit the northern half of the Delta (northern sector of the Ebro River). The tour starts by visiting the beach of delta and a small lagoon, where we can watch Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), Black–tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), Eurasian Curlew (Numerius arquata), Audouin’s Gull (Ichthyaetus audouinii) and also the Collared Pranticole (Glareola pratincola). After that, we will continue visiting the “Punta del Fangar”, a wide sandy beach where we will find a lot of Kentish Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus). In the afternoon we will stop in two important lagoons of Ebro Delta where we can see Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus).

DAY 2:

The second day we will visit the south half of Delta (southern sector of the Ebro River). During this day we will be dedicated to visit the lagoon of “Alfacada” and at the same time we can see the impressive “Isla de Buda” lagoons. Then we will visit grass plains between the rice cultived areas, where we will have the opportunity to observe rare birds like Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Tryngites subruficollis) and Eurasian Dotterel (Charadrius morinellus) during the migrations, and also Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus). We will finish the day with a visit to a little lagoon under the management of the Spanish Society of Ornithology, and where the bird watching it’s very comfortable due to the proximity between the centre and the lagoon. In this area it is easy to see very close Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio), extensively present in all this Natural Park.

DAY 3:

We will focus this day to the south half part of the Delta. We will visit one of the most unique habitats in the Natural Park, the salt flats, the best place to observe Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia), Slender-billed Gull (Chroicocephalus genei) and Lesser Short-toed Lark (Calandrella rufescens). After to visit to the salt flats we will go to the beach again and we will end up visiting the both bigger lagoons in all Delta, like “Tancada” and “Encanyissada”, where it is easy to watch Piet Avoce (Recurvirostra avosetta) and big flocks of Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus).

DAY 4:

East of Ebro Delta we will find the “Puertos de Beseit”, an important Mediterranean rocky mountains system which plenty of ravines and Mediterranean scrubs. On the rocks we will watch Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis) and Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius). The most notorious rapacious bird in this zone is the Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata) and Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos).


DAY 5:

On the way to the Monegros (Aragón), we will stop at the “Plains of Lleida”. During the morning we will visit the arable fields of Tarrega, unique place in all Catalonia where is breeding Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus). During the afternoon we will visit the “Utxesa” marsh (Segre River). The main objective of this visit is to watch Bearded Reedling (Panurus biarmicus) and Eurasian Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus), because is the best place in Catalonia to watch them.

4. MONEGROS (2 days)

DAY 6:

The first day of this part of the program will be focused to visit the East sector in the Monegros. In this area the semi-desert steppes are very common with a lot of abandoned cottages and cultived dry lands. In semi-desert steppes is very easy to watch Pin-tailed Sandgrouse (Pterocles alchata), Black-beilled Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientais), Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Calandra Lark (Melanocorypha calandra), Greater Short-toed Lark (Calandrella brachydactyla), Lesser Short-toed Lark (Calandrella rufescens) and Thekla Lark (Galerida theklae).

One of the more difficult birds to watch in this tour is Dupont’s Lark (Chersophilus duponti) and it’s for this reason that we will visit the best area in Monegros to do it. In the isolated farmhouse we will found European Roller (Coracias garrulus), Little Owl (Athene noctua) and Eurasian Hoope (Upupa epops). In the scrubs is very popular Spectacled Warbler (Sylvia conspicillata), Dartford Warbler (Sylvia undata) and Woodchat Shrike (Lanius sentaor). Outside of the towns of the region we will find different steep dry slopes where it’s not difficult to watch Black Wheatear (Oenenthe leucura) and in the rocky cliffs in winter it’s possible to see the Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria).

DAY 7:

The tour will continue to the central zone of the Monegros. Our main target will be to watch Great Bustard (Otis tarda), the bigger steppe bird in Europe. In this zone we also can see Great Spotted Cuckoo (Clamator glandarius) and Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus). In winter, it’s a good site to observe Short-eared Owl (Asio flameus).

5. OSONA (2 days)

DAY 8:

During this part of the journey we will carry out a tour to the Plain of Vic and to the Ter River. In the Plain of Vic we will visit the growing areas and forest areas, the mosaic agroforestry of this important agricultural area of Catalonia. Here, we can observe Crested Lark (Galerida cristata), European Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus), Euroepan Bee-eater (Merops apiaster), Little Owl (Athene noctua), Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) and Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus).

After that we will visit the river Ter, where we will enjoy watching the herons colony, where is breeding the Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), Little Egret (Egratta garzetta), Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), Western Cattle Egret (Bulbulcus ibis) and which also are frequents Great Egret (Ardea alba). Walking around we can watch Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), Green Sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) and Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea).

DAY 9:

During this second day in Osona region we will go to Collsacabra’s cliffs, very close to the small town of Tavertet. This is one of the most important rocky cliffs of the northern half of Catalonia. In this place we will observe Peregrine Falcon (Falco pereginus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Red-billed Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) and Rock Bunting (Embericia cia). And in winter, if we are luck, we will watch the Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria).

6. PYRENEES (2 days)

DAY 10:

We will make a route of two days in the Eastern Pyrenees of Catalonian. During the first day we will visit the alpine area in the north of Ripoll, in order to watch Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus muta), Dunnoch (Prunella modularis) and Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus). In the afternoon we will walk to the subalpine forest of black pine, where we will find Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius), European Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus) and Citril Finch (Carduelis citrinella).

DAY 11:

During the second day we will visit Ogassa and “Serra Cavallera”, where predominate the mix of scots pine forest, beech forest and grass pastures . In this place we can watch Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis), Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe), Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) and Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio).

7. CABO DE CREUS (1 Day)

DAY 12:

After this two days in Pyrenees we will continue our bird watching tour to the Cap de Creus, where Pyrenees arrive to the Mediterranean Sea. In the morning we will make a walk in the middle of the natural park and we will watch birds of scrubs and rocky area like Thekla Lark (Galerdida tecklae), Spectacled Warbler (Sylvia conspicillata), Ortolan Bunting (Emberiza hortulana), Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius) and if with a little luck Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis). During the afternoon we will visit the coast villages to see Pallid Swift (Apus pallidus), Red-rumped Swallow (Cecropis daurica) and some sea birds like Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus) y Cory’s Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea). Late afternoon we will arrive to the top of Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery where it is easy to watch Bonelli’s Eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus) and Western Orphean Warbler (Sylvia hortensis).


DAY 13:

We will make a tour of two days to the different habitats of the Natural Park in the Ampurdán Wetlands.

During the first day we will visit the lagoons and wetland areas in the Natural Park, where we will watch White Stork (Ciconia ciconia), Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides), Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), Eurasian Pendukine Tit (Remiz pendulinus), Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) and during the time step we can watch some wading vagrants like Pectoral Sandpiper (Calidris melanotos) or Temminck’s Stint (Calidris temminckii).

DAY 14:

On the second day of this tour will walk through the agriculture areas from the Natural Park, and the target will be to watch European Roller (Coracias garrulus), Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanii), Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus), Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor), Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) and Western Bonelli’s Warbler (Phylloscopus bonelli).
