It is one of the best times of year to visit Osona. During spring, birds arriving from the south, which are preparing to breed in the region as the Western Bonelliâ€™s Warbler (Phylloscopus Bonelli), the Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), the Eurasian Scops Owl (Otus scops), the Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriole), The Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus) and the European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster). We also find in the grass fields or pastures with livestock migratory birds that stop on their long journey to northern Europe as the Red-throated Pipit (Anthus cervinus), the Red-footed Falcon (Falco vespertinus), the European Roller (Coracias garrulus) and the different subspecies of Western Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava sp.). In the forest, near the river Ter, we can watch the breeding colony of herons as the Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), the Western Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) and the Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea).
In summer is a good time to watch the species that nest in the region. The Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus) that we can be seen flying over the Plain of Vic, the Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans), the Dartford Warbler (Sylvia undata) and the European Crested Tit (Parus cristatus â€“ Lophophanes cristatus) in the Mediterranean forests, the Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) in mixed areas of meadows and woods and young Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus) dispersion flying over the cliffs of LluĂ§anĂ©s or Collsacabra area. In late of August and early September starts the post nuptial migration and we can watch the Eurasian Dotterel (Charadrius morinellus) on top of the Montseny climb and in isolation some Black Stork (Ciconia nigra).
With the first cold from autumn forests change quickly, before losing the leaves, show different colors of yellow, orange and red. It is at this time of year when the landscape is more spectacular. In autumn we can watch migratory birds like the Western Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava sp.), The Common Redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus), the Eurasian Wryneck (Jynx torquilla) and youth Woodchat Shrike (Lanius senator) and Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) in dispersion. At the end of season we can hear the Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Buho buho) on cliffs quietest region.
